Noticed Andys posting about Eccleston Delph.According to the the web site one of the guys involved has withdrawn from the project. Anyone any idea whats going on with this place now? Is the project still going ahead? Theres been a rumour going about that John Sawyer at Diving and Marine in Urmstons now involved. Although i've heard recently thats not the case? Is it open for diving ?

I went across last month, depth 16m max, if you put your arm deep enough in the sump. Shallow 2-3m for the rest as it's not full. Vis varied from 1.5m to nil. 25 mins and you've been round the lot. A couple of ex-army bits are nearly ready to go in and a boat.
It might be more interesting for training in another few months.

Just came back from there this afternoon after doing the dives for my nitrox couse. It is smaller than Carperwray and as menttioned before Viz is not so good 0-3 meters.Max depth 16.2 meter, Viz at that depth is zero in the middle of very sunny day. Water temp 12 degree when air temp was 23 degrees. 70 miles from centre of Leeds, very short distance from exit 27 on M6.

eccy delph has a brand new compressor and a clean spacious toilet. what more do you want. to say there are no facilities means you obviously havent been. its a nice site and a lot of money has been spent and is still being spent. personally i would go there rather than trail to capern wray and pay twice as much to pay for a bar and restraunt which i will never use!

Guess it all depends on your definition of facilities - St Abbs harbour has a bog and a compressor! It's great that Eccy is being improved all the time but, and I'm sure you'll agree, the 'facilities' are spartan at present when compared to other more established inland sites.

marco u stated that eccy delph has 'no facilities whatsoever'. i would class a compressor and toilet as some sort of facilities and pretty important ones too....but if you need a compass to find a bloody big portacabin then im not surprised that you werent aware of these facts. if you class facilities as a dive shop, restaurant, etc then fair enough but please dont run down peoples efforts to give us another inland dive site. it cannot be achieved overnight and with a few quid.

I don't think it was ever Marco's intention to "run down peoples efforts to give us another inland dive site" - he was simply informing other members that, unlike other sites he has dived inland, Eccy Delph is still being developed. I would regard a compressor and bog as being the bare minimum for an inland site that charges for entry. A changing room, sandwich van and improved parking facilities would (and will in time) be more welcome to improve Eccy's chances when compared to developed sites like Stoney Cove and Capernwray. As for "if you need a compass to find a bloody big portacabin then im not surprised that you werent aware of these facts", these are hardly comments in the spirit of the YD community. We encourage an open and honest debate where opinions may be expressed without resort to derogatory comments or blatant flames.
