There is no doubt a better way but for this sort of thing I just use the next column and enter a forumla to test if they are equal =A2=B2, but with four you would need to wrap several tests in an AND such as =AND(A2=B2,B2=C2,C2=D2)

Can you explain more what you mean?

Are you trying to check whether the numbers in row 1 are all the same, row 2 are all the same,............ row 504 are all the same?

Or are all the columns different?

Could you give a bit of an example please.

Cheers,

Si

Yep, using conditional formatting you could do this (Format > Conditional Formatting) (depending on your version of excel) (or Visual Basic if you're that way inclined :))

Ah ok...

If your lists were in columns A, B, C, D and started from Row 1

Then you could put this fomula in Column E

=IF(AND(A1=B1,B1=C1,C1=D1),"","different")

and copy it down the list.

It would then only say "different" in the row which was different. The rest would just have a blank looking cell

hey thanks that works too :) just one thing it works back to front
the it marks the one the same as different
so i changed it :)
=IF(AND(A1=B1,B1=C1,C1=D1),"","same")
you can see I worked long and hard on this :)
