My family have had enough of me globe trotting and are demanding a holiday.

Problem is that I have three children - the oldest of which is 16. I can;t find a hotel which will cater for us all outside of Disney FL - without insisting that we have two rooms which puts up the cost hugely. If I suggest Florida I will probably not have to worry about my husband coming ;) Does anyone know any large family friendly hotels which they would recommend for a holiday - diving resort not required.

Why not just rent a house or flat in the area you fancy. Eat out or get the old man to do a bbq :) Might make him feel usefull.

Get down the Dordogne whydoncher? Cracking scenery and wonderful food. Cheap hotels and friendly people. Ideal. Brill.

Oi you lot.

OK I'll rephrase, need a nice hotel (don't do self catering) and somewhere near a beach as hubby like sea/sun holidays.

Chris - I'm heading to France in July, family holiday is to earn sufficient brownie points to let me go ;)

I don't know if you could resist the obvious temptation, but one of the big hotels near Playa del Carmen would be ideal. I think the Iberostar paraiso lindo (something like that) has interconnecting rooms for families. The all-inclusive is actually pretty good, and there are plenty of yank kids / teenagers to make friends with. Won't serve your 16 year old with booze though, so you'll be getting pressure for Ibiza etc. I imagine. Like I said...maybe a bit too tempting...

I hear there are some beautiful hotels and great beaches around the Red Sea :)

Actually, Corfu is nice and can be done quite inexpensively. There are only a few PADI try dive places, so you won't be too tempted. If you were around Paleokastritsa then the water is crystal clear and the family could do a bit of snorkeling. Though you do need to be happy with big hills if you go to Paleo. If I were going to Corfu again, I would rent an open top 4WD and tour round the island a bit - it's very pretty. There are rowdy, Ibiza like bits of Corfu, quiet old town bits, family parts and lots of pretty bits in between with beaches all round.

I would just go for a nice villa and eat out all the time. Pollenca or Port Pollenca in Northern Mallorca is very nice and not too far to fly. You don't have to self cater, except for the bit where you unscrew the wine bottle yourself.

Tried a travel agents?

They are normally very good. Tell them what you're after and they should be able to sort you out with a couple of options?

OK. So the caves don't cut it eh. How about the Cote d'Azur? Lovely beaches with ladies with their titties out for kind Mr G (aka Ali) - what man could resist?

Here's a hotel:
L'hôtel le MAYA à 5 minutes des plages et du port, à 3 minutes du centre ville de Cavalaire sur mer.
or
Hôtel Villa Provençale -- Cavalaire-Sur-Mer -- France

No horrid campsites or caravans. No elderly Dutch people driving like Daily Mail readers.

Nearby the excitement of Monaco and the casinos. All the incredible seafood the bouillabaisse the dorade... The wonderful cheeses and the mountain hams... My god woman how can you say no?? All that plus cheap flights with Easyjet, or take the TGV and travel in luxury... or put your silly little ute on the motorail.

All that eh? How can you resist?

Oh and there's this:

Cool ideas guys - one or two leads to follow up which I am.

I appear to have missed the boat for apartments in most places.

I know it sounds silly but you don't have to self cater in self catering accommodation. Just use the facilities for easy coffees, chilled drinks and maybe cereal type breakfasts and eat out. We like/liked Greece a lot, I suppose there are a lot of countries where you can eat out reasonably if you go to the places the locals go to.
