Dear All,

We're due (next weekend) to make our annual trip to the Farnes to dive with Stan Hall's set up at Beadnell.

My question isn't directly diving related but hopefully someone may be able to offer some suggestions.

Our journey from South London is some 360 miles each way and usually takes most of the Friday for the 'outbound' journey. This time, rather than stopping at the usual motorway cafes we thought that it would make it a bit more interesting to stop off at some 'nicer' places to eat and be watered.

Our route from London is the M25, M11, A14, A1. Does anyone have any recommendations of 'decent' places to stop for an hour or so within say about 10-15 mins detour from the A1. Anywhere in between the junction with the B6326 and A66 would do nicely. Although any suggestions are welcomed.

Regards, Ian.

Hi Ian,

If you want to stop before the A66 area, I can recommend, although can't remember the bloody names of, a ruck of decent eateries just off the A1, where it is crossed by the A52 in the Nottingham/Newark region. Good food and 'Norvern Prices'.

HTH. Sorry couldn't be more precise.

<font color='#736AFF'>When we go on the A1 we always stop at the RAMJAM inn.
An extremely civilised road house located on the west side of the A1 approximately 9 miles north of Stamford. It offers a stylish ambiance and great food. The pasta was particularly good last time but the menu is varied. It's just a proper restaurant and completely unlike every other eatery on the motorway.

Thanks Jules,

This sounds like the best one on offer  140 miles into the trip.

Pickup cylinders from Kent diving at about 10.30 then this should be at this point just around 1 ish all being well.
