currently studying a degree in conservation biology in Melbourne Australia (midlife crisis at the tender age of 28 forced me into a career change, so expecting male menapause in a year or two now !).

just been set a research topic - select an animal or plant from the Victorian Threatened Species List (Flora and Fauna Guarantee Act) that has not had an action plan written for it, and research its biology with a view to writing a hypothetical action plan.

off i go.......and find that the Blue Whale (Balaenoptera musculus) has no action plan in Victoria.  hhhmm, ok, lets look at the Federal Acts/legislations, see if the state government have just handballed it up a level......

Its April 2004 - the Federal Government of Australia still hasnt approved an Action Plan for the conservation of the Blue Whale in Australian Waters !!!!  How long have they been on the global threatened species radar ??

Does anyone else find this incredulous ?
