I'm finally sorting myself out for Scapa, and I am going to leave my car at Scrabster and get the ferry over to Stromness. How do you book a wheeled crate thingy to put the dive gear on the ferry ? Can you do it on the northlink website, as I cannot find anything there.

Just ring them, they will ask you to fill in a form if your taking cylinders. Hopefully you will have a buddy then you can push it up to the boat at Stromness.

I like to use Pentland Ferries and take the car, it's currently £33 for the car and £14 per person each way, ferry port is about 7 miles down the road from Scrabster. is a shorter crossing and it's a great drive across the orkneys at the other end.
