I was faffing about whether to get the £40 hydrotech drygloves or the 3 finf
gered mitts that John Gulliver was talking about.

Is there another way to keep your hands warm - particularly for that second dive ??

Answer is a flask of hot water - pour into gloves before dive 2 and watch how warm your hands are during the second dive (of course - empty the water out just before donning the gloves)

OK - so no good for mega deco diving but worked a treat for me (Use it on hood too)

Its an old one but it works - any other handy tips out there

<font color='#000080'>Erm, a second pair of gloves? I've normally got at least 2 pairs with me, but for those that don't hot water can be good. You've got to be a bit careful about how fast you warm your hands back up. Can lead to some really nasty pain.

I was at Stoney yesterday, and got about as cold as I've been there ever! Hands and head were freezing. Any suggestions on how to keep my hands lice and toasty without buying a new set of gloves? I t was the first and only dive of the day, and I was only in for 30-40 minutes. Min Temp 7deg.

I've used the hot water trick many times, usually when putting wet, cold gloves back on for the second dive. I do NOT pour the water out before donning the gloves (make sure it's not TOO hot, though!). The hot water remains in the gloves, preventing entry of cold water, and does not get cold for quite a time, up to half an hour in 6 mm gloves.

<font color='#000080'>If you havent got too much water, share it around.  Pour it from your gloves into your buddies.  After a dive on the farnes my hands were that cold my fingers were painfull (and when you are cox that can be a major bummer), one of the lads sacrificed the last bit of his hot ribena for me (awww).  I had purple hands for a week.  

I got ribbed for doing this on the Jean Elaine, untill i offered people the water and then everyone was doing it!

If you don't have hot water a flask of coffee works fine - but your hands smell a bit after the dive.

Got to be dry gloves, they are a royal pain to get on and not too good if you go deeper than 20m otherwise you get squeezed but they do keep your hands considerably warmer.

Aclimatise your hands to the cold by spending a suitable build up period holding Ice cold beer for 4-5 hour sessions in a suitable location.

You can take short breaks while replenishing the pint, and make sure you are sorting out your insides for the cold compressed air by drinking lots of it as well.

Not really, as long as you're in the water. I stopped using my drygloves a couple of years ago. My 3-finger mitts are just as warm and a lot more convenient. It's only when I take them off after the dive that my hands are cold and that's easily cured.

Gave my 3-finger mitts a try yesterday. Water was 4c. I was toasty warm the whole time, much to the disgust of my shivering fellow divers

Grab a handful of the plastic gloves you get at garages for filling your car up.  They do keep your hands warmer, especially for a second dive!

Cheap and cheerful !

P.S.  for wearing under your own wet gloves of course,not by themselves!
