I'm a new diver in Jersey, Channel Islands. Did my PADI OW in Red Sea last October and am saving money to start diving over here.

Met some divers from Yorkshire in sharm, really nice people, who were fantastic when I had a total wobble doing the OW course, so this seemed like a good place to come and have a chat! (still not over the wobble, but just need to get back in the water!)

So, hello everyone, nice to meet you :)

Welcome to YD! My sister lives in Jersey on the coast road at St Martin. I did one lovely dive in Jersey when I visited her once. There was a great crowd from Jersey here in El Gouna few months ago. They have a dive center in St Helier and organise many holidays each year to the Red Sea. Sounds perfect for you to get to know them if I could only remember the name of their dive center..............

Hi there Georgina - I think that dive centre is DiveJersey and I'm going to meet them next Saturday when I go to their shop to try on wetsuits :)

I'm told that there is some fantastic diving to be had around our coast; I'm looking forward to doing a 'discover jersey' dive soon. Although, it has to be said I am, apparently, one of the few poor souls over here who hasn't seen a dolphin in our local waters (and I've been here for a long time!).

We're coming back to Egypt, this time to Hurghada, in September to do some more diving - can't wait!
Hello and welcome,
Enjoy YD !
Hi there gpj - please to meet you :)

Hello from Cumbria.

Hi guys

Good to meet you :)
We're going to do some diving here soon - once I've got some kit.
I did Discover Scuba here, but it was a bit traumatic - no vis, huge swell - all very scarey. Hopefully our scuba review will be a bit less alarming!
Hi Hillie,
My GF lives in Jersey (St Helier), visiting this weekend coming.
Looks like there's some cracking local diving - hoping to check it out soon.
Enjoy your adventures - diving in the UK is very worthwhile and rewarding.
Hi cjwood23 and Angharad
Good to meet you :)
The weather is fab over here at the moment and the sea looks lovely and clear, but I'm not doing any diving yet. Am just going to book my scuba review and then hope to do open water advanced in the summer, now that I've found a wetsuit that fits me - hooray!
You should have a good weekend, cj, but bring a jumper - the blue sky is deceptive - it's still bl**dy cold at night!
And you too. :)

What are the water temperatures like in the Jersey area? it's just off the coast of France, right? (Sorry, my geography is pretty apalling).
Water temp at moment is 11.3C and apparently the vis is great. We are 15 miles from the coast of France, in the Bay of St Malo. We have a 40 metre tidal range and lots of rip tides, but when the visibility is good, it's apparently very good diving. I'm waiting to do my scuba review and then we're doing our open water advanced - decided that in a hurry! Apprehensive, but sort of looking forward to it ... I know it will be worth it once I've done it and improved my confidence, but am not sure I'm looking forward to the getting there at the moment!
