how much is too much redundancy? or how much crap do you carry on dives?

ive been spending soem time fettling my gear this afternoon as it ws about time to,

and i looked at the kit i am using as some in the club say i look very sleek and minimal in my setup. yet on thinking about it when i had it all in the back of my landy in bits for inkering tiems i carry a HELL of alor of geart for

at the moment i am diving
a manifolded twin 10s with DS4 and Atx40 on each pillar each with a wing inflate hose and one which has my SPG . comp and compasse in a console,
aly backplate with a 2kilo V weight (all i Need) and One peice harness
Dive right Duel bladder wing to give me a redundant boyancy capability
a wetsuit

i also carry
a Greenforce F2 umbilical torch tank mounted routed to the left side of me and clipped into place so i dont drop the head end that oftern,
a (newly fitted) slob knob to my right hip D ring
when i get around to recharging the batterys a backup LED AA torch clipped to my left D chest ring

2 thigh pouches with

1) having a Delayed and reel in it
2) having a spool and delayed in one pocket, my same sea ish buddy line, and a small goody bag
on drift dives a larger rigid opening goody bag is clipped to my right chest D ring
a dive knife on my primary inflator
some diving scisors on my right side.

my dives are normaly 20m ish stuff, with some and hopefully alot more to 30-35 (pesent max qual depth).

am i carrying to much redundancy? or am i better keeping as is., . everything is easy to get to, it doesnt bother me at all, its out of the way and not dragging in the water

No stage?

What exactly are you considering doing without in that list?
backup torch, second delayed, and one thigh pouch. but as its such small items i dont know if im better keeping it and knowing or not

as to a stage. when manna falls from the skies (or i "borrow" deviouse dans one) if i get to a point that i need it.
For the diving that you're doing it seems fine to me. I would expect that at the end of this thread you'll be convinced that you need a whole hog rig though.

Put a spare mask in one of your pouches and then you're sorted :)
backup torch, second delayed, and one thigh pouch.
So what will you do when your primary torch fails and your primary blob slips out of your hand?

If you need one, best take two...at least...
right thats another 2 goody bags needed then! most essential bit of kit.
As a matter of interest i decided to weigh my kit as if i were about to go for a dive, I was rather surpprised to find it weighd 60Kg.
Quite scary when you concidder i weigh 65Kg.
I've only carried one dsmb so far as my buddy(s) has the backup.

Oh goody, a game of what if ;)....what if you loose your buddies and drop your blob.

I'll look around for the shark that's no doubt behind me ;)

I haven't yet had to finish a dive on my own and I've never had a spool jam (reels are another matter ;) )

think that answers it paul. in addition to the obvious stuff, i carry:
  • redundant gas source
  • 2 x masks
  • 2 x computers
  • 2 x DSMB + spool
  • 2 x cutting device

i don't carry a spare torch, but don't do much more than stick my head in to UK wrecks. i have used the spare DSMB and spare computer in anger.

but how many pencils :)
Lol I did have 2 but I dropped one and snapped the other so now I have 1/2 a pencil! Must put some more in thanks for the reminder.
.

When I saw the tittle I thought you were asking about redundancy money from the company you work for.

Do you actualy dive with a buddy, or need one :)
