Evening Diving Talks Hosted by Saints Divers
Monday 13 June 2011 7pm – 9pm
Guest Speakers Dr Trevor Oxley, Gareth Lock

7pm to 8.00pm

Doctor Trevor Oxley dives with, and is a medical referee for the BSAC, and works at the Midland Diving Chamber (Decompression chamber / Hyperbaric chamber for divers with the bends / decompression illness, Midlands Recompression & Hyperbaric facilities - The Midlands Diving Chamber).

He has dived several Oceans and Ponds of the World, preferring the caverns and geology of Malta and Gozo and the temperature of the Red Sea. Failing that he may be found lurking in the North Sea or inland lakes.

He will be talking about decompression illness. This is aimed at divers from Ocean Diver level up to Advanced Divers. It is entitled “Women, Children and Animals” and although covering a serious subject is an entertaining and informative talk. Dr Oxley will be joined by Ben Wilson, a former Australian Naval and Commercial diver who now works at the Midlands Diving Chamber. Both will take questions at the end of the talk.

Break

At the end of this talk there will be a 30 minute comfort break. This will be an opportunity for you to talk to the presenters and refill drinks from the bar.

Talk 2 – 8.30pm to 9.30pm

Gareth Lock is an accomplished technical diver and frequently published underwater photographer, specialising in deep wreck photography. Gareth is a serving officer in the Royal Air Force, and spent 10 years as a Navigator on C-130 Hercules. He worked at the UK flight test centre at MOD Boscombe Down, where he made up part of the UK team ensuring that, amongst other things, the UK military human factors needs were captured and met. He talks about human aspects affecting diving and how we can take measures to avoid falling into the incident pit. Gareth has presented at Eurotek 2010, LIDS and the Tek 2011 conference. He will also be available to answer questions following his talk.

Booking Information

The talks will be held at Wootton Working Mens Club, High Street, Wootton, Northampton NN4 6LW. There is a small car park and parking in the adjacent streets. Car sharing is recommended especially as Wootton Club has a fully licensed bar offering a wide range of real ales.

Although the event is without charge we will need to know names and numbers in advance to ensure that we do not overfill the function room’s fire safety limit.

Please ensure your place by emailing [email protected] or telephoning Julie on 07944 258 376.

Book soon to avoid disappointment.

I just wanted to say a large thank you to both Gareth and Dr Oxley for last night.
The talks were received well by all and everyone had a great night with lots of discussion going on in the bar afterwards.
A big thanks to all who attended, we had just over 50 people turn out.
