Er, if anybody has suffered from deposits of this volcanic ash, I'd be grateful for a small (< teaspoon-ish) sample. Postage paid / contribution to Lifeboats etc.

Please PM me if you've been deposited.

I know it's sad, but I suspect the rumoured glassy stuff in it would look pretty good under a polarised light microscope.

Now I just need to find a life.

I'm surprised there's none on flea bay, along with the moon rock and Elvis' kidney stones;) I agree with you, it would be interesting, didn't some guy in Shetland have a car covered in it?

Maybe there's an Icelandic dive forum you could post this on. Just to help you, this is what you should ask:

"Er , ef hver sem er hefur þjást frá innborgun af this eldfjallaaska , Myndað af eða I myndi vera þakklátur fyrir a lítill ( teskeið ish ) sýnishorn. Burðargjald greiddur framlag til Björgunarbátur etc. Please - PROMETHIUM mig ef þú hafa innborgun.. I vita it's dapur , en ÉG gruna the orðrómur gler- efni í það vildi útlit laglegur góður undir a skauta ljós microscope. Now ÉG réttlátur þörf til finna a líf. "

Hmm...

My cars pretty dusty. I have no idea if its volcanic ash or not but you are welcome to come and clean it!

Er...

OK, if GordyP is prepared to lick Mrs C's car clean, then eat a bit of Fred's belly button fluff, then we might have a deal.

(I'm still after some {unprocessed} Icelandic volcanic dust.)

We definately have some on the car - nowhere near a teaspoon though! It is very slightly sparkly under strong light and feels slightly gritty.

Please can you save me some? I need far less than a teaspoon - that was just the smallest thing I could think of when writing the original post!

Let me see if i can wipe some off on a white tissue or something. Closest I can come to collecting it. It is a very fine dusting.

Happy to help out, if I'm not flying out, as my car seems to have far more dust on it than would ever be normal. Only, that does happen sometimes anyway. How can you tell whether it's volcanic?

Yep think my car's covered in it as the BBC correspondent just down the road posted on BBC website that his was - question is how to get it off without scratching paintwork other than washing it off - then again it could just be the usual crap from Avonmouth aluminium smelter.
