In a previous list item mentioned is made of the Buddy backplate (by andy2tanx etc.).  Is this plate the one where the cylinders are attached top and bottom or is it the normal style plate where the twinning bands only go through the backplate at the top?

Yes, I would like to use a steel plate but up to now I have not been able to convince the airlines that cylinders, gauges AND backplate qualifies as hand luggage...
They already look at me funny with my funky Bright Weights belt for my Levi!

Edit:  I meant "Buddy" - sleeping with eyes open this morning...

If it's just weight that's an issue, look at an alu plate..

I was never convinced by the idea of drilling holes into my plastic backplate..

I've drilled through a Buddy ABS plastic backplate to fit my twins + v-weight.  I was worried about the strength, but have contacted a few people who have successfully done so.

I made sure by bulking it out with epoxy steel and a small piece of galvanised metal.  Unnecessary, but it made me feel happier.

Works a treat!

P.S. There's a few sources for ABS plates that are the same shape & size as normal SS plates, so have the bolt holes etc in them already, but none of the weight concern.

I think dive rite do them, plus some chap in Australia seems to be flogging them cheap too..
