I'm not sure whether remotes send infrared signals but whatever it is, you can't see the light but phone cameras can ..... which is quite useful if you have a TV etc related communication breakdown.

At least you can now see if the remote is working.

Not all cameras can see infra red it's all to do with a filter in the sensor. So don't bin your remote just because you can't see its beam with your phone camera!
