Just Giving

The idea of a Just Giving web page has been raised again. The only objection seems to be the 5% charge they make, but that, imho, is out weighed by the ease with which people can make the donation, and the Gift Aid bit, which will make more than the charge JG make.

On the basis that i have had no real objections to this, and it has worked well for Smudge, Howard, and plenty of others, i am going to set up a YD page. I checked, and at 4pm yesterday Yorkshire Divers was still available.

We will need to be careful that people don't use it, though, to make payments for things such as the clothing, the calendar, the buckles - in fact, anything that is going to need someones outlay, because that will cause real problems. I will think of some appropriately worded instructions to go on the page!

Please let me know if you can foresee any other issues!

thanks

No objections from me, the only problem I can think of is the objections that some members will raise because of the charges, it's YD and therefore inevitable that someone will moan.

I think it's up to whoever is organising the sales to ensure that instructions are followed for payment of those things, though to be honest I could cover a few doing it with the clothing.

If you choose the Yorkshire Divers name, can you alter the charity that it donates to at a later date? I'm just thinking that next year a different charity may be chosen.

Good point, Arfie - I afaiui, the page is linked directly to the charity, so probably need to have a new one next year (unless we still do RNLI!)
In that case make it YD 2008-2009 and then next year....

People will always complain and even if you provide instructions, they ignore them ;)

What you can do is the sellers state that if you pay for the goods using the JG site when it shouldn't be done, you will still be expected to pay for the goods correctly.

That is kind of what i was thinking.

I'll try and get it done today.
OK... I've done it.
Justgiving - Yorkshire Divers RNLI Page

I have put a few words up there, and put the YD logo on it , I can go in and edit it, so if you have a better way of wording something, please let me know, or any other ideas for putting on the page.
Sounds good but there is one typo, first line of the fourth paragraph
Yep looks fine to me, other than the aforementioned typo.

Can you add to the shown total manually? like adding in the money from the calendar and shirts etc? Otherwise £2,000 might be an ambitious target from donations alone

Yes, because there will be a way of adding the amount raised 'offline'. I'll have a look, make the changes, and see what is what. :)

edit: at the moment, I can't log into the page to make the changes :( but there is a way of updating the amounts, so when we know how much has been raised offline by specific things, like the clothing, the calendar etc, i can update it.
