<font color='#000F22'>Just a quick rundown on this weekend's latest diving adventure in the Lake District.

Me, Ben, Stevie W and Tim Ing were with your friendly neighbourhood TDI Instructor Trainer Andy Hayhurst to do our Deco Procs course.

Me and Ben were booked in a twin room at The Dalesman and I was starting to get think that I've spent the last three weekends sleeping in same room as Ben on dive trips and Fi's getting worried!!!

Anyway, I pitch up on Friday and meet Ian (the guy that Ben went to Sharm with earlier this year) top bloke and doing his Adv Nitrox on Friday and Saturday and came out on Sunday for fun!

Saturday was spent at Conniston - a lake which is full of tea and mud - two dives both practising skills  - mask off swims, shutdowns, stage drop and pick-up etc interspersed with Hayhurst doing the usual tricks and nonsense whilst laughing maniacally.

Saturday night was the usual chinese takeaway and lectures which finished at nearly midnight. I sware that Hayhurst was just trying to knacker us by reverting to sleep deprivation techniques.

Sunday and off to Wastwater to indulge in the sports of deco diving and dog chasing. The first dive was 35m for 25 mins then 1min deco stops at 18/15/12/9 and then switch to 100% at 6. Really simple and nothing I haven't done before but this time you've Hayhurst on the box laughing and singing and Simon doing impressions of a breakdancer simulating o2 hits.

Next dive and Andy is chasing after his dog - who is now dubbed Zoltan - hound of Dracula - even tho' he's a Manchester Terrier puppy. We were in the water for 50 minutes and Andy spent most of that chasing after the dog!

The course was certainly well worthwhile even tho I've done most of the theory before and done more of the practice it's a great chance to pull it all together and just get focused on the matter at hand.

I always learn something everytime I dive with Andy and Simon and not forgetting Rob who had travelled up from London.

It was great to see Stevie and Tim again and to meet Ian for the first time (the boy's got more good jokes than anybody I've met for a while).

Next stop will be another Clyde weekend trip in a couple of weeks time. Hoping to do the Wallachia again and maybe the Beagle and the Kintyre too !! More details in planned trips when I get 'em.

<font color='#0000FF'>Say Gav, I think the rest of the guys should see the digi photo of you molesting poor little Zoltan

Just a little addendum from me, indeed a great time was had by all, kudos to tim for his first ever Wing/twinset dive being done with drills and a side-slung stage tank!
But on Sunday morning I could feel something mucous-sounding in my eustachian tube when I moved my jaw, on the dives this became a familiar intense tooth-squeeze pain. afterwards it turned into the worst diving related headache ever, which made the drive home severly unpleasant. I'm deducing that this is all due to the trigeminal nerve which links the whole side of your face in one network, hence an ear problem can manifest in your eye or jaw -not nice at all

Still, beats being a couch spud

Andy up to his old tricks again? Not the first time he's been dog diving. I'd be worried if I were a canine.....

Shame I missed the weekend, would have loved to have been there.

Gav, pub tues night?

Hi Andy,

Hope you don't mind the above pic -seemed to fit the thread quite well with your recent antics.

I've got a few pics you might be interested in for the site - want me fire off a CD to you?

Just to put in my little bit!

your right Gav it was a top weekend. I went up a bit earlier and did a Deep course with Andy as well as the advanced Nitrox.

My first Dive at Coniston on the Thursday (still trying to think of something nice to say about the Vis!) If youve not dived there its rather like swimming in Oxtail soup! but it tastes a lot worse... Andy founda nearly new Avanti quatro @ about 9 meters (he has eyes like a shit-house rat as my old mum used to say!) and we nearly get our SMB run over by some hoooray! in a tweed cap and a fishing punt. We have last laugh though has weve been down there and know that in the last 20 minutes or so weve seen a total of two fish maximum length 7 inches...

Thursday Andy, Ben and I go off to Wastwater Englands longest cul de Sac, things are looking up in the dive planning dept. as Andy has remembered to bring his dry suit this time  (Couldn't resist squealing Andy ! sorry...) Anyway despite abysmal weather we had two great dives 1st Down to 44m and some reeling off drills.. Andy reminds me to slow down a bit in the old finning-like-feck dept.as I'm using jet fins to good effect but the air consumption is heavy! I thought I'd planned the dive really well as I returned with 30 bar (single 15l + pony) after Andy lent me some air for a 5 minuter @ 6m...

The 2nd dive to about 34m is a chilled affair with Ben peering down in the depths to get a handle on where the fabled gnome garden is! Back to Andy's for the Adv Deco theory..

Sat and Sunday covered most elequently by Gav. Other than two quick things...

1) Andy's dog is a Manchester terrier, mainly due to the fact that it keeps running off and he has to chase the little fecker nearly to Manchester before he gets it. This is coupled with the fact that TDI have yet to do a manual entitled how to catch a whippet doing 35mph, whilst running behind it wearing wellies and a rebreather. (I think PADI are thinking about it as a speciality course though!, including a badge..)

2) First time Ive met Andy and Gav, Tim, steve and Co. A really nice bunch of guys who make you feel very welcome and share tips and learning without any hesitation. Andy H's courses were excellent with a mixture of theoretical learning backed up with experience and skill. I learn't a huge amount!

I am sure the excersise where you undo the clips and belt on your Bcd and then finn off and barrel roll gracefully whilst fastening them (Andy) or disapear towards the surface with an alarmed expression (moi) will come in useful.

Thanks to all for a great weekend..And Ben I havent mentioned you telling Andy H he'd never get behind you to turn your set off!

Just a quick addition to the stuuf above;  what a great weekend.  Meeting up with a few of the old faces and a new face (Ian) was great fun.  And the lakes, ah, beautiful!

One thing I did learn - don't expect to put on a new set of twins and stage cylinder and expect an easy learning curve!!!  the first couple of dives were hard work and I felt like a total newbie with some shocking bouyancy control compounded by some frantic searching for dump valves etc on the new kit.  Got it mostly sorted for the final two dives however and most enjoyable they were too.

Actually another thing I learned was that it's difficult too catch a sprightly young pup in full flight - especially if you're wearing a Dry suit - not to be recommended.

But all in all an excellent W/E.

Tim
