Hi guys,

I'm after a book that teaches useful knots for watersports and also shows skills such as splicing etc.

Anyone recommend a book that shows all this and is relatively simple and step-by-step in its approach.

Cheers,

Its like the fisher price guide to knots.... quite good, especially for chimps like me

Try searching on Google for "books of knots" - plenty of hits.

Top of the pile was this.

<font color='#000080'>I might have a big boys book of knots one you can have a lend of. Or I'll show you how to tie a couple of them myself. I do a very neat hangman's noose if it all gets too much for you.

Online splicing guide here and an animated knot guide here

If you try Nauticalia and click on the books section, you should find a good book or two. I would offer to show you but I was always crap! Shocking I know...

Any chap on my watch who is not completely conversant with the likes of a Half-Blood Knot or a Sheep Shank, sir, is, frankly, due a flogging and denied the next run-ashore to the bag shanty of his choice! The workings of a ship's general rigging should be second nature, sir! What are we? A WAFU?

Docked three days 'suds', denied Plushers and permitted the Dog Watch until further notice!!

Avast, sir! Not before the futtock shrouds have been addressed and the mizzenmast atopped!

Now, all hands to their station and that man, follow me to larboard.

Yet again the use of nautical terms has confused the hell out of me.
