This current year seems to be shaping up for an increase over the number of fatalities in the2003 Incidents Report ; as well as this unfortuate soul there's the Stoney incident and the Navy diver who died last week, plus the diver(s) who died last year after the publication of the last incidents report Stats
I don't think the BSAC incident list is that representative of the state of the UK diving community (I don't list every freeflow I've had for example) but yes, I hope none of us fall foul of problems this year.
It is worth remembering that there does seem to be more incidents at the beginning of the year.
This maybe due to a number of factors such as weather conditions, people having a break over the winter and being a bit rusty or their kit not being checked out properly after an extended period out of the water.
Hopefully things will settle down a bit as we get further into the year.
