Hi All,
I am going to buy a shiny new 'pooter at the show this weekend. I need to know the CHEAPEST 'pooter I can buy that lets me set it on a really conservative setting. I believe Suunto does one but I don't really know. It has to be fairly idiot proof as I'll be using it, but it has to give me full air deco info. Any help will be great.......

I have a Suunto, or two, its not the one you want BUT it has three levels of conservatism. The lowest or least conservative matches the Padi RDP 2 or 3 levels up i.e. you get less time on the Computer for a square profile than the maximum the tables allow. In practice you do get more than the tables as its never a square profile is it. There are two more levels of even greater conservatism, but these would give you very short dive times and long SI. I checked out Suunto via a divernet (sorry) equipment group test and they seemed very conservative throughout the family. They also tolerate raising your arm a bit quick, which I believe some others dont. So I'd suggest a Suunto that manages the gas mixes and deco you plan to use. Vyper or Vytec seems to be the one these days, or go for a VR3, but then again you did say least expensive. I think Mark (Chase) has a Suunto and he cuts his own tables via a PC.
