I seem to have reached the point of not needing any more kit.  I can do all my diving without wishing I had something extra or different.

Is this a temporary thing everyone goes through?

Ring Divers Anonymous (call Divers Wharehouse they have it)
and explain, they are bound to offer sympathy and understanding and I'm led to believe in really bad cases they are even prepared to send a van (and a man) round to your house. They have a very good cure rate, but it could involve cold turkey and even colder water.

Best of luck, try not to be too depressed during the festive season, your loved ones are sure to recognise the symptoms and provide you with stuff that just must have more stuff attached to it for it to be getting near completion.

I find the best policy is to be honest to your wife and her supportive 'I dont believe it' will be encouraging.

There are support groups and remember you are amongst friends here that will point you in the correct direction. It may involve going abroad for a few weeks.

Best of luck, let us know how you get on, we are here for you because you are worth it.

<font color='#000080'>A few months ago I had a similar experience when I found I had been into a dive shop without buying anything. I posted my story here and found some support (though not all were quite so understanding).

Remember that you are amongst friends - we understand what you are going through and be assured that it will pass.

Its a temporary state of mind....
Best cure I have found is to book a diving holiday somewhere different where you are bound to "need" some more kit. an example would be a Ice Diving holiday or perhaps to book a trip with a airline which only has 15kg baggage allowance, there is bound to be a lightweight version of almost everything you own.

Another diversionary tactic is to spend some time converting the garage..... heating, lighting, dehumidifier, big bench, Massive stainless washdown sink with water and drainage, hanging rails....... add in the pc and broadband the TV etc. This will prepare you for the next spending frenzy and help justify it (all this space you will have to fill it). Make sure you leave enough room for the campbed as SWMBO might ask you to sleep there as well

i went through this recently.... but then went through an entire kit-configuration overhaul and now have a brand new wish-list!

i'm sure it's just a temporary thing - you're bound to see something soon that would be just soooo much better than your current article

Right lets check shall we :-

Mask, snorkel, fins ?
Regs ?
Computer ?
Compass ?
Slate ?
Big Knife ?
Reel ?
DSMB ?
BCD ?
Big Torch ?
Small Torch ?
Spare mask ?
Weight system ?
Cylinder ?
Another cylinder (for those 2 tank dives) ?
Pony setup ?
Small knife because big knives are just so last season.
and a set of trauma shears.
Drysuit ?
Gloves ?
Hood ?
Spare hood (because putting on a damp hood is horrible) ?
Wetsuit ?
Another wetsuit because the other one is too thin or thick ?
A shortie wetsuit because the other wetsuits are full length ?
Whistle ?, numerous clips and lanyards ?

Right how are we doing so far?

OK Now for the next stage...

Umm Camera and housing (Stills or video) ?
Better get a better light system or strobe ?
Oh twin cylinders.... worth a try ?
Better getter a harness and backplate
Better get a Aluminium backplate for holidays.
And a smaller wing to use with the Aluminium plate on holidays.

Right,  Hopefully that should give you some inspiration (Oh what about a rebreather
).

Anyway hope that helps,

Daz

<font color='#810541'>thanks for that list Daz - are you happy if I copy and paste it on to my letter to Santa?

I'd be happy with a leetle torch as Santa knows I haven't been very good this year (or any!)

Bugger it, looks like I've got all of the top list and some/most of the bottom list too, I might have to give up diving soon if this carries on.

I need Inspiration or maybe Evolution, oh that feels much better.

it's not fair is it? how do people afford all this kit?

my manifold/bands/wing/backplate daydream will never become reality - it'll be indys on a stab for me forever, because i simply can't afford it!

Dave / Kate,

Pull yourselves together - We will not have such a defeatist attitude.

Repeat after me, "It's only money, diving is the most important thing in my life"

Food, rent, mortgage and other luxuries can wait

Kate,  Welcome to the world of credit and high finance

And don't forget when you upgrade to new kit, it is cost effective to keep your kit current and you will always get a good price for your old kit
(Actually that's not strictly true.  You will actually hang on to it as you will not be able to bear to sell it for such a loss.
).

The most important hurdle to overcome is to learn how to break the price down,  for example..

I really want a twin set, but it is just so expensive!

Hang on I can get a backplate for £40 and web it myself for just a few quid.  Oh and I can get a new wing for £160.   (Actually webbing it will cost more than a few quid, but stay with me on this one)

So that's £200,  wow that's cheaper than a BCD...  Oh that's so cheap.

Now cylinders,  well I need 2 the same anyway, So I'll get two and sell my old one, because you don't lose much selling cylinders second hand and I won't need to have them tested for another 2.5 years.  And a set of bands will only cost about £40, oh better get a manifold,  I'll look at those really cheap ones.

You see how it works now..  Very, very cheap..  and before you know it you have spent the best part of £600 on a harness, wing and banded O2 twin set (Of course you actually went for an expensive manifold and bands because afterall it is false economy to trust your life on something cheap.

Tee Hee...  and so it starts.

<font color='#000080'>I'll run it for you if I can live in it. I'll sit on the gate, charging people far too much for my services, of which there will be none, and employ one member of staff. A tea lady for me.

Business plan sounding good? Let's do it. I'll get my agent to call and arrange my fees.

As for more kit, have you really got nothing to buy? It's not possible. My move to sidemounts has just opened up a can of worms you don't even want to see the size of. And as for getting this helmet-mounted light situation sorted, well, I'm going to be here forever. I just spent £100 on 4 torches. Only diddy ones, mind.

SDS did me 2 PC lights for £50, which I've fallen in love with. One of them is clear, too, so I can see when I've cracked it and it's leaking!

Yay!
