Hi all,

Our club is planning to go up to Oban towards the back end of November this year. I was just wondering if anyone has dived it this late and if so, what conditions we can expect?

I'm specifically looking for Viz / Sea state / temp / Weather info if poss.

Just wanting to know if it's going to be worth shelling out my hard earned cash.

The local skipper reckons that the viz should be fantastic and he is almost certain we shouldn't get blown out.

He also reckons a water temp of about 13c can be expected.

TIA

Lived there for 4 years; dived most days.

Cold; depends on what you're used to I suppose :) !

IIRC weather variable but viz good, depends on what you had in mind

Every year I run an Oban trip sometime in Feb.

Ok it's not November but it's certainly not spring or summer!

My experience is that there is something to dive through the Sound of Mull in most conditions, perhaps with the exception of strong NW.

Water temp has been around the 8deg C mark with air temp varying between -2 during the day to this year at about 5deg C

The real treat is sailing through the sound with blue skies, a real chill in the air and snow on the mountains both sides...

Vis has varied from site to site but between 5m and 20m

If you're a litttle concerned about November, I wouldn't be. You might be unluckybut that could be the case anywhere any time of year...

Go and enjoy...

Here's some video of our last couple of February trips!

Thanks to you both.

Those vids are fantastic! Would you mind me showing them at our next club meet to drum up interest?

Looking forward to it now :D

Dived all year round up there inc New Year's Eves and Days.

The only thing I would say is that the days are quite short in terms of light. This is not a problem if you are on a liveaboard or on a day boat.

For those contemplating RIBs, you need to ensure you get your "a" into "g" in kicking folk into action in the morning if you want to get a decent surface interval in unless you want to end up "night diving" every day

ACDC's Hells Bells at full volume usually gets folk out of bed :teeth:
