Photography trip Bracklesham 3rd May (Bank Holiday Monday)

Following the success of the trip PeeBee arranged last week, I have decided to take myself back to the Mulberries, and have again spoken with Di regarding chartering the Wittering Divers RIB, specifically for photographers.
This is only provisional, so if the numbers don't look good in the next couple of days I'll just be booking on as a normal diver, assuming they run the trip.

For an idea of what it was like last weekend, check the following links (I hope Pete and Alex don't mind).

As you all know, we UW photographers have 'special needs', like lots of space, so I again intend to limit this to 8.
Ropes off is a leisurely 11am.

We have 2 choices;
  • Book the boat as a normal dive, but limit the numbers. This would be Bracklesham launch, so loading off the beach. We would also have to fit in with their schedule, as they have an afternoon dive planned. £30 a head based on 8
  • Charter the boat like last time, allowing us to launch from Itchenor pier (thus easier loading), and have more time on site, as she would cancel her afternoon dive. £40 a head based on 8. The disadvantage with this is a much longer motor out, as we have to navigate Chichester harbour at 8 knots Max.
We wouldn't have such a big slack window as last time, however, due to it not being neaps. So, really long first dive, or 2 shorter ones. The boat does need to be back for an evening dive though.

Currently, the preferred option is for the single dive off of the beach, so £30 a head.

I will be booking to go on it anyway, but if the numbers are right, then a 'togs only' trip worked really well last time.

This filled very quickly last time, and I know a couple were disappointed they missed out.

Rules:
  • You book, you pay.
  • If you cannot come, you either;
    1. Find someone to fill the spot
    2. Pay for your spot
If you don't like the rules, don't put your name down. Sorry to sound harsh, but it's the first trip I have tried arranging, and I'm not asking for deposits, just your word:) An I will name and shame any transgressors who leave me out of pocket;)
I can hold spots for a couple of days, but really need to firm this up with Di by Weds evening/Thurs AM.
I will be offering this to a couple of other people as well, on some of the UW photo forums, but YD is on 'first dibs' as it were:)

SCRUBBED due to lack of interest:(
What a shame, bad timing Sean I gues, with Divefest going on. Hey, the cuttlefish have been spotted of Selsey pier so perhaps you could have a shore dive there. Slack is about 16.50 on Saturday I believe.

Alex
Yeah, I got that email as well:) Might just have a tootle down there on the Sunday. Busy Saturday (SWMBO's birthday - more money:D)

As it is, Di seems to think the weather might not play ball anyway, so no great loss really:)
Sean,
After looking at the results from the last trip I'd be interested in this trip, but Monday was just bad timing for me. Also a trip from the Midlands means I want more than one days diving.
Rob
Rob, quite a few boats down this way run as shuttles, the mulberries are a very popular dive. That does mean you are in with the 'normal' crowd however. We could always look at doing another whole boat charter in the summer, for the photogs. Lower numbers means a bit more to pay, but the boat is ours:)
Sean my kids have confirmed for Sunday night but they can't agree on what they want to do on Monday. I may still be up for a shore dive if slack water at the pier works out. Any idea what time it is?
In the email I got from Mulberry Divers, they are hitting the water at;
Mulberry Divers said:
You can dive the Lifeboat Station on either 4 hours before high water or 3 hours after.
Bank Holiday Monday 05:57 (for the early birds), 11:25 or 18:25
I've just had a look at the tide tables on the BBC (from UK Hydro Office) and got this
0152 High 4.7
0745 Low 1.1
1430 High 4.7
2011 Low 1.5

Those are all GMT, so +1 for the summer:)
Which would put us bang on 18:30 for 3 hours after HW.

I'll check to see what the weather is like but I could be tempted to sneak down as well.

I would also say it's weather dependant for me, if it's tipping it down I'm not going:)
Forecast is SW wind, 14/15 knots but dry and sunny. we could make a call on Monday lunch time and still have time to get down there if we are still up for it.
Selsey is 1:40 drive for me (say 2 hours on a bank holiday) and so a Monday lunchtime call is good by me. I am not so much worried about the rain as the wind stirring up the crud and leave us with zero viz.

Short of driving down there I'm not sure how we can know what the vis is like. A call to witterings might do it.
You can call Mulberry divers too, they are usually very up to speed on the vis at the pier.

I would imagine that, as Mulberry divers are planning a few dives there over the course of the weekend, they might be the best port of call.
Monday evening then? - I've got the ticket out! Cuttlefish everywhere now apparently...
Right, Alex PM me your number. I'll call mulberry at lunchtime, check conditions then call you guys.
