What would be your suggestion?

Let me start you off:

* Diving to search for and attempt to recover the bell of the 'HMS Podsnap' (used by way of example and with absolutely no disrespect to the Cape!)

Divers - your suggestions please?

<font color='#0000FF'>Mine would have to be the effort & hassle required in venturing out to one of our inland ponds such as horsea or stoney, just to get wet & look at a bit of artificialy placed wreckage with the obvious exception for attending training or testing new gear.

Best part of the day is the breakfast!

Not when breakfast is at stupid o' clock for such trips. Mind you a full Monty afterwards is wonderfull.

I have never been to Stoney, but Gildenburgh used to crop up in the past. Lovely brick fish specimens there. Oh deep joy.

I have to say, sitting at 60m hammering away at a ship wreck for the entire dive in a cloud of silt, risking a CO2 hit and a bend due to excesive excercise and dooing 120mins of deco afterwards to bring up a hunk of brass and glass that will more than likley clutter the garrage untill its finaly thrown away.

There you go thats just about 60% of all my dive buddies mortaly offended.

Lurning to use the PADI Wheel recreational dive tables to plan multy level dives comes a close second

<font color='#000080'>Buddy checks on the boat, bubble checks at 6m, listening to the dive briefing and the worst is the long hose - f**king useless when my buddy is 40m away on the other side of the wreck

Depends on the angle of the question...

Going to an inland pond to look at a placed wreck is not pointless...it's a dive that some people have to make as they're too far away from the coast. In any case, I thought stoney was a good dive....being an ex pat and meeting up with punters...it was a good, but early start day.

Hacking stuff of wrecks, again, might not be pointless to the arse who's doing it...in which case, it's not pointless.

I think the pointless dives are the ones that you or someone you are with (known or unknown) does and they're hating every minute....

It happens...you can spot them...as you're trained to do...but they dive in cold water without the right suit, got too deep..etc...the list goes on. These are all tasks if you're not really up for it.

Having said that, are these pointless...they learn we learn...even if it was horrible at the time...a learning experience.

Is there a pointless dive task/exercise? Suppose it depends...

People doing 'Buddhas' to prove what great buoyancy they have, you don't ever dive in that position, so why do it in training!?

Anything involving 'world records' especially those that are very very specialised - 'World's Deepest female diver in the Red Sea' for example - the very statement is self contradictory, though I have seen it printed.
