I am trying to complete a group of buddies for winter dives on a top boat from Portland this winter. See www.skindeepdiving.co.uk . We have provisional bookings for 10/11th Jan, 14/15 Feb and confirmed for 6/7 March. The boat and skipper are excellent and you can check them out on the web. The Jan/Feb dates are still open because we need a min of 6 divers. SkinDeep also have a very good value package  re full w/end + accommodation etc for £75.
PM if you are interested or want to have a chat. Alternatively contact Ian at SkinDeep on 01305787372

Paul it would be great if you could make the Jan trip, because that may just get us to the magical minimum 6 divers in record time:

Lou, Caroline, Matt, Howard, you + me
Imported post

In that case count me in

Only a couple of provisos. I don't have my own cylinder so I can only go if I can hire one there - is that going to be a problem? Also, what's the deal with the £75 all in package? Is that what we're all doing or will I need to sort that out myself?

Cheers,
Paul

Well, Caroline and I intend to do the package...I guess Matt is as well.

Hi Paul, you're in!

Getting the min number of divers was the most difficult part, so I've focused on that first. If Howard confirms by the end of this week and we can make the booking for 6 or more, we'll get into details. Getting you a cylinder will not be a problem, I will check with Ian about availability and rental. We will need to discuss/agree if we are all getting there Friday evening to take advantage of the 2-night £75 package, or if some want to arrive early Saturday, bearing in mind the boat will set off  at 10.00.  I'll soon circulate an email/PM to all booked to organise ourselves.

Phil
I'll probably drive down Saturday morning rather than stay Fri night, which is why I asked about departure time. I'll make sure I get there for an hour before departure. Is it intended the boat stays out all day or will it come back mid day, appreciate you probably dont know at the moment, nearer the time for confirmation wil be fine.
I'm in for the accom on Sat night though.

Do we arrange any special requirements through you or do it direct, i.e. veggie scoff at breakfast time etc.

Hi Matt, I charge a small extra for personal services including agony aunting, in-line morris dancing tuition and vegetarian scoff recipes... In the unlikely event you WERE being serious about scoff, Ian will put us in touch with the person who runs the B&B and you can tell her what you need. You can call Ian direct any time. Personally I haven't yet decided if I'm driving down on Sat or staying Friday evening. Either way is really not an issue. re returning to shore in between dives, it's difficult to guess right now but a safe bet is that the first dive will be around lunchtime.
As soon as we're confirmed for 6 we'll get all the details off Ian.

Hey Frogkick you do realise that if l end up diving portland harbour in zery vis for about the 10th time l'll hold you responsible

However l've dived the Hood once in good vis and its really good.

Worst memory of Portland- staying in b&b 'IN A PUB' up the hill, at 2 am the landlord gives us the key and asks us to keep a slate and lock up when we go to bed!

Next morning at brecky the waitress asks what we want for brecky and l mutter (head in both hands) Asperin.

Now this is not big because l've then got to go and dive with my son of 14 with a feckin' hangover....doh..

However l blame the organiser, fancy putting me in a b&b in a PUB
?

Matt

Car sharing- l think it will be easier driving to Portland sat am rather than fri eve.
So either you come to Stanmore leave your car or we meet somewhere in on the M25/M3.

Or you take the bike l take the Disco with the gear and somewhere down the line we swap, l've still got my old crash helmet emblazoned with Triumph, Norton, BSA etc.
The leather doesn't fit anymore.

Howard
better if we meet at your place I think, at least we start off together. Talk about it a bit closer to the time yeah as I'll only forget what we have arranged.

Paul
you up for a share too, I'll come to yours, pick you up and descend en mass at Howards, nice and early wake the neighbours.

Petrol three ways and diving for £75, this is beginning to sound cheaper than Stoney and in the Sea. I'm beginning to like this plan a lot.

Phil
do you need a deposit or anything?

Dude I'll take your post as a "yes I'm coming". In which case congratulation for making up our 6th diver. Re. crap weather, poor viz and stinky b&Bs, I thought that's what UK diving is all about so don't you dare complain or you'll end up sharing a bunk with snoring Matt )

so it sounds like Lou/Caroline Friday eve, Howard/Matt/Paul Sat morning, yours truly still undecided re Friday/Sat. I'll get on to the skipper and get some more details. I'll get back to you soon

Phil
its a wicked rumour I snore.

I'm sure I speak for all of us - Cheers for organising this one.

<font color='#000080'>Sorry, Guys,
I didn't get to see the front of this discussion.... what days are you planning on diving?
Also, what depths are you planning?
Any room for any more?
Could be interested....

Bugger second time of posting.

Jan 10/11 plus Feb & Mar (see page 1).
30/35m at a guess majority rule, as we are AOW (I think) then I'd suggest that's the game plane, but Phils the organiser so talk to him.
Boat takes 12 I think (max) so assume there's a place for you.
Accom might be more difficult but I'm sure the girls will be overjoyed at the thought of me moving in with them, as the rest of the guys say I snore ( I dont its a dammned lie I tell you).

Be a blast if you can manage it, how about Mrs Abucks too

Hi abucks, Matt's right: the 10/11th Jan weekend is a go and you're welcome to join that. there's a mid-Feb planned too (14/15 I think) which still hasn't got the min 6 required.

Diving is likely to be governed by the weather first, and by the mix of divers we get. It's a safe rule of thumb that if dives are limited to max 30m everybody will be happy. As we get closer to the summer and we get more demand for these trips we may be able to cater for a wider range of diving including deeper or shallower stuff either side of the "vanilla" 30m max. Skindeep has a new boat equipped for technical/offshore dives and it has a lift.

Please let me know if you're interested, there are some details further up the thread on pricing/boat/website etc.

Hmm, was sure I'd already written this but yes I am up for a car share on the Saturday morning. I'm sure we can get all three of us and three sets of kit in my car

Or did you mean one of your two cars?

Paul
I thought I'd pick you up from St.Albans travel down to Howard's place then all rush off to Portland with our buckets and spades in his motor. He has a Discovery so we should be able to get the kit in there, if not you'll have to miss the trip
 (only kidding)

That way we can split the cost between us and ruin Howards motor in the process. We'll set time a bit closer to the date if thats OK or I'll forget.
