Hi

Having convinced the missus i was too tired to drive to a family event, i got a few of the guys together for a quick dive in the Thames Estury. Several people had mentioned the water looked very clear for a change.

So got 3 others together and met at the boat sheds. The plan to dive the Girdler Wreck (metal unknown in 12m). Then on the way back watch the Lancaster flypast comemorating 50 years since the Dambuster bombs were tested by Barns Wallis off Herne Bay, chance to race a Lanc - got to be done.

First disaster - The GPS has packed up, so we decide to go out to the old Pier Head, 7m dive with tons of sea life. Get there early but it is already HW (damn), then i slip over securing the boat and badly hurt my leg - No dive for me.

Others to go in as a trio, 1 gets sick so 2 go in and have a good 30min dive till they get seperated and both surface drifting down the Estury in the current.

So lets head back and watch the Lanc, but icky boy is in agony so we go straight in, put the boat away and get a pint - wheres the Lanc we ask - went past 20 min ago were told.

O well, lets go home, washing my kit and my new mask is lying there broken - just one of those dive's.

Regards

Paul

PS Anyone got a better cure for a realy painful bruised leg other than soaking in a hot bath drinking bud till the pain goes away.

You think you've had a bad time, wait till you hear about Ben's exploits in the Clyde this weekend, one or all of us will do a report later - I'm knackered!

Think about how much a new mask will cost - it won't stop the pain but it might take your mind off it.

Sounds like one of those days. Pls don't reply in case your bad luck transfers over to me.

Better luck next time.

Finless

I am going to reply anyway as i also come from Bexhill originally and i still get down there occasionally to visit the family, so how about a mini gig? I can return the complement off Dover.

Do you belong to the SAA club there? Was trying to get out on a dive with weightless last year, any relation to you?

Sorry to hear of tge bad luck Paul, still I suppose it could have been a lot worse.
Bruise - rub it in with Balmosa, hurts like hell but it brings the bruise out quickly, dont use on broken skin though.

Hi Paul,
sorry to butt in.  Yep - there's plenty of diving going on down Bexhill way.  Finless and me are members of a Hastings-based  club 'Out of Cinque Diving Club', also locally are 'Hastings Diving Club' and Bexhill-based  'Rother Diving Club' - one of whose members goes by the handle of Weightless.  He's a mate so I can put you in touch if you like, but I don't think he's diving much at the mo.  All 3 clubs are SAA.
OOCDC's got a few hard boat dives booked this year, but will probably fill them all as there's been a recent spurt of mad keen wreck divers in the club (woohoo!)

Depending on what sort of depth range you dive, there's plenty of scope for picking up the odd space on other clubs' charters - the vast majority of my dives come about this way.
If you're genuinely into having a splosh over this way, you can go on our wee e-mail ring that we use to keep each other informed.
We mostly go out of Eastbourne & Brighton and the depths range from 25m-odd (Oceana) to 68m (Bessell) with stacks in between.

It strikes me that there are a now good few contributors on YD from the Kent/Sussex area - the idea of a YD mini-gig down here is starting to look quite attractive given that pretty much every other one on the lists involves hundreds of miles of travel up to the land of chips 'n gravy
.  Anyone else fancy it?

Wouldn't mind doing a bit more over Dover way - used to do the Western Arm fairly regularly as a nice dossy shakedown dive, but I've heard horror stories about the vis over your way.  Any truth in them?

Cheers
