<font color='#000080'>Like Dougie, I've just been on the Juliet for a week in the Red Sea.... Fantastic experience and like everyone else, have been suitably brainwashed by the YD Mafia (Gav, Fi, Mark, Tim, Kate and Steve) so here I am.  I've got a pathetic 31 dives under my belt, just got my Advanced Padi and desperate to get some more dives in as eventually I want to get into Underwater Videography. I work at the BBC as a Picture Publicist, and am bleeding them dry of courses at the moment - DV Camera and Adobe Premier Editing, in preparation for when I'm an accomplished diver and fit for filming!!  Very interested in good diving in the UK and filming... so any tips on equipment that won't bankrupt me would be fantastic....

Hi Sue,

Welcome to the mad, bad world of YD,  Well actually you have already met the mad and bad
The rest of us are quite normal

I am very keen on underwater videography so quite happy to share information and advice (Got some great footage, don't know anyone in the BBC who would be interested do you
).

As for equipment that won't bankrupt you,  well you picked the wrong hobby, diving and video

I use a Sony DV cam in a gates housing, with wide angle fish eye lens.  For editing I use a Mac and I-movie, so much easier than the PC packages I played with.

Anyway, enjoy the board,

Daz

<font color='#32CD32'>Hi Sue, And Welcome.

Depending where in London you are from, dive69 based in Surrey run a couple of boats out of littlehampton that are good and cover all ranges of diving.

If you want more info, feel free to email or PM me.

Hi Sue
there are a few Southerners on here and we manage to dive Stoney in the winter to keep the skills going, are you dry-suited so can hack your way up North (well Leicester IS North) for a spot of cold water sillyness. Or there is always Wraysbury (Nr Heatrow) where abouts in London are you based, West I assume as you work for the Beeb.
Summer months seas us Coast bound, thats N/e, N/w and South.

<font color='#000080'>Thanks for the info so far guys.... mmm, Stoney. That looks DAMN cold. Haven't done the dry suit yet, but have had an offer of a try dive in one, so we'll see how that goes first. Daz, I've seen the Gates housing, but don't Sony do their own housings? It's really tricky to know which camera to go for aswell, because they bring out new ones every milisecond.. And Juz, I'll check out Dive69 in Surrey. I'm guessing that it's a genuine outfit and not just a comedy name for the new and uninitiated.....?  I'll probably find it's an underwater porn site! Mattbin, where do you dive in the South?

Hardly a contest, now is it?! Indeed, there's nothing wrong with Southerners that a damned fine bitch-slapping and some educational correction (matron!) wouldn't sort out

<font color='#32CD32'>lol, no honestly dive69 is genuine.

Call Tony on 020 8786 7821.

A few people on here use his boats I think. You can see the boats on http://www.wannadive.co.uk/

Wittering divers are good for Rib diving.

Also, have you thought about joining a club? Where in London are you based?

Sue
I havent done that many UK Sea dives so far but have dived Cornwall and Portland (darn sarf) and The Farnes (oop north).
As I'm still getting my kit sorted, just as I get it right I change something to screw it all up again,  I tend to try it out at the aforementioned quarries (ugh!!!) but at least they dont get blown out.

Next year will see me diving in the Sea more, hopefully on the coast with either Paul or Andy, if they'll have me.

Steve - keep your hood on mate! only joking, had a great time (when I could understand the locals that is).

Enigma has nothing on a beered up Geordie or Weegie
Peter K, if you're out there, now would be a fine time for a demonstration of "Weegianese"

I hope you mean Northern England ?

You don't know poor viz till you have dived the Clyde or the Upper Forth right after a downpour. Metres? we are talking inches of viz here and not being able to see your hands and a torch just being a dull glow in the murk.
You only get real divers up here, its either that or the sheep.........
