So it seems that Manchester will now become the home of the countrys first and only Las Vegas style supercasino and it will be based in or around Eastlands, the home of Man City.
Well thanks very much Mr Faceless Licencing Authority type bloke. Not only do I have to go and watch that shower of sh*%e every couple of weeks, I now have to go and blow all my hard earned after the match trying to make myself feel better.
On the other hand I wonder when Seigfried and Roy are bringing their white tigers over?
Or Tom Jones perhaps?
Boxing anyone ?
All together now Viiiiiiiiivaaaaaaaaaa Beswick, Viiiiiiiivaaaaaaa Gorton.

I've been thinking about this today and the stupidity of a govenrment that is banning smoking (which is addictive) in public, and condoning gambling, which is addictive.

Gambling can lead to depression and bankruptcy. Great, so lets open bloody great casinos where people can potentially chuck away their money, get addicted and leave depressed.

Am I the only one who doesn't get it?

Taxes baby!!!!

Having worked for a couple of years in the Casino industry a long time ago, I remember chatting to one of the managers about the profits, and this tiny regulated place made almost a million a week. So.....almost 52 million a year all of which gets heavily taxed. Add on to that all the "licences" (for licences, permits, surveys etc think TAXES!!) and it's a lot of loot. Now multiply that all into a massive super casino and CHA - CHING!!!!!

I can't also help thinking that placing it near Manchester is a bad idea. Lots of gun crime, seedy prossies, drugs etc....oh...hang on....it's like Vegas already!!

Anyway.....the governament isn't banning smoking as they would lose out on the revenue from taxes.....what they are doing is making it look like they give a stuff, and doing all the "smoke and mirrors" stuff so that people think they are doing something when in fact they're not.

Government (especially this one) = Theft from the population, interference in personal choice and a general miserying of the public:frown:

What I remember most about Vegas was not designer suited Sinatra types lounging over cocktails or fit women in short dresses stacking chips on a roulette table but herds of fat poor people playing slot machines, fat salesmen on conventions and fat families moving to the next $5 buffet. It's a shit-hole in the desert. "Winning" is not really the word I'd use for the government deciding to park a legalised way of ripping off stupid people on your back yard. The other cities are welcome to it.

Aren't HM Pickpocketing Ltd great, they refused to support Manchester's bid for the Olympics but will happily shove a giant casino here. Sod the North, let's have another nuclear power station too. We'll happily have your taxes but what we don't want on our electorate's doorstep we'll shove up there.

Well said. Exactly along my lines of thinking.

And anyone who thinks that casino dollars are going to regenerate whatever towns they are dumped in - take a long look at the shithole that is Atlantic City in the USA. Same promises were made, Casino was built and now while the fat and the stupid waste their money, the hookers, pimps and crims make a mint robbing everyone and dragging it down deeper.

Another point: If Casinos are so great for regeneration and there is a chance that you the punter could win surely this would be a good thing right? Nope. House always wins. Always....without fail. In my short 2 year stint as an employee I saw loads and loads and loads and loads of losers....big and small. I can only remember 1 big winner (60,000K in one night. What did he do with it? Came back the next night and blew it away!!!)

The only people to make anything from a casino will be sat in a boardroom counting the profits. Its big business and big profits and lots of taxes, they don't give a monkeys about the punters on the gaming floors.Locals may find work but its more than likely to be the low paid menial work, which they could of got elsewhere. The management and the better paid jobs will be taken by people bought in by the casino for specific tasks.

Do any casino's run addiction helplines or have counselling on site, just wondering if any have a conscience.

Not saying you are wrong, and I can only make assumptions from the information I've gleened off the local news and press, but Blackpool was crying out for this - the majority of businneses seemed in favour, and presumably this would have included at least some of the local residents (as in not all, 'cos you can't please everyone all of the time).

They had a 50 year plan to turn Blackpool into not just a casino, but also an international conference and event centre...

Have you been to Blackpool recently?...It attracts 10 million visitors every year as it stands (and it can be called a little 'shabby') and with he extra from the casino, this would have increased by over 2.5 million more to the town.

We gave legalised gambling in pubs here, set up by Federal Casinos in a 20 year monopoly-sweet heart tax deal with the State government. They call it "The Oasis", what a joke that is. Pubs with an "Oasis" have a big room, very seedy, full of poker machines, chrome and glass, they also do Keno and you can bet too.....on computer generated animated horse/greyhound races for chrissake. Not a casino as such, although we have two of those, run by the same company too.

If you draw a map of Hobart, showing household incomes and density of pokie machines, suburbs with the highest density of pokies per sq km are also those with lowest household income.

One point of interest, I was doing a food safety assessment in one of these places once, when I bumped into a Gaming Officer from the State Treasury Dept and we had a little chat and he asked me if I thought the gamblers in the Oasis Lounge were enjoying themselves, when I prevaricated he said, "Ok then, tell me how many of them are smiling".

And come to think of it, I'd never seen such a bunch of busted arse, miserable and scruffy unfortunate looking bu99ers all in one place in my life.

yes.

Once the money starts floating into the Casino pockets glumness follows.

As for Blackpool being revitalised - how? A few locals get a shit job, and all the money the Casino pulls in will certainly NOT be ploughed into regeneration. It will line tax department and casino shareholder pockets. They are not in it to "help" or "regenerate" areas, they are out to seperate the people with the most to lose from what they need most - money and security.

NO windows, NO clocks, free food and drink - all designed to hook in and keep the punter.

Gambling might be a thrill and a laugh but only if you go in and are prepared to walk out with no money in your hand. All it really is though is legalised theft - just like the lottery etc.

hello, I believe that if everything was not as honest as many write, then no one would ever return to an online casino and no one would play, but this is not the case, there are reviews on casinos and I recommend reading before choosing and playing https://onlinecasinoprofy.com/en/no-account-casinos/ no account casinos, which is also a plus, I wish you all good luck, believe and everything will happen
