TRIP CANCELLED SEE BELOW.
Swanage Pier - Friday 30th January - skip work and go for a dip!
Weather conditions permitting, we're planning a mini-trip to do the shore dive under Swanage Pier.
There is more information about diving the pier on this thread:
http://www.yorkshire-divers.co.uk/cgi-bin....;t=5331
but the gist of it is:
- regarded (at least by some) as 'one of the best shore dive sites in Britain'
- loads of marine life (dead mens fingers, fish to prod)
- shallow dive (probably around 5m, seen estimates between 4 and 7m)
- dive shop on pier above
- parking on the pier or nearby in car park, cost is minimal about £4
- entrance fee at pier also, although you get a day ticket as a diver
- non tide-dependant (very small tidal range), so can dive any time of day, don't need to wait for slack
- viz is ruined by any wind from easterly direction
Dive will obviously be subject to weather and wind direction over the couple of days before the 30th, if we have to call off the trip then we could always bail out to an inland site (can decide which one based on where people are travelling from) just to get a dive in.
I'd expect a fairly relaxed start time (say arriving around 11 - can firm up later). We can sort out buddies on the day if people are coming alone. Anyone welcome, the more the merrier (so we can huddle together for warmth once the hypothermia sets in
).
Team list so far:
1 - Tom
2 - MattBin
3 - ?
