I've been invited down as a 'delegate' to the BSAC DOC tomorrow, taking place in a small hamlet called 'London'.
They contacted me off-line after reading some of my more prosaic work on a number of fora and after they put out an offer for 'thems what go walkabout to farer climes what might want to submit pieces from their travels'. Anyway, they asked me to go along as a 'travel correspondent' for their on-line travel magazine, imaginatively entitled 'Travel Club'. Catchy, huh?
Anyway, has any of you (Stevie Walker?) tribe been to one of these gigs?? They know I'm not a BSAC-wallah, but I'm wondering what to expect, as I haven't a Scooby.
Is it a civvies gig, or is there a dress-code?? Boots & Jeans, or 'sports-casual'?
Oooooooo.... special treatment for the Brenster
Seriously though, I've never yet bothered going to the DOC, partly because if I'm going down to "the smoke" I'd probably be more inclined to spend my time in the NHM.
It could be interesting though, getting in amongst the BSAC wallahs, I don't believe there would be a dress code.
Anyhoo, as it's on today, I guess this post is a bit late...
Sorry dude, haven't been "surfing " as much as I'd like lately

Cheers for the in-put guys. As it turned out, I couldn't travel down last night, and today the West Coast Line railway was closed between Manchester and London due to 'essential maintainance'. So buggered either eay.
Couldn't attend so went and did surface cover at the Cape for Dales who was running a TDI Timix course. So went to 'Plan B': Davey 'These Hand-cuffs are Chaffing so would You Please Apply some Nivea' Willo was there along with Jay as support divers for the guy being put through his skills by La Hayhurst. Good day out and all returned OK. Jay had to skip off (apparently he was on a promise!!), but Davey and I sat in on the Trimix lectures with the student and learnt a lot more than we anticipated.
Actually, I can see where this is going......Davey and I are going to do our Deco Procedures course and then the full Trimix.....added to which, there's a guy near me who might be selling his Inspiration Rebreather.....for a song!!! Tech-Ticket and Yellow Box of Death.....it wasn't supposed to go this far......I've been diving quite happily as a recreational diver for nigh-on 14 years.....and I meet you lot and ........Mummy, please make the bad dreams and the nasty men go away......they want to take to the water and make me dive again.....(it's at this stage we had to stop the tape as Bren began admitting to crimes he had not committed).
Bren your Pre requisites would have been:
1.A large clipboard( they always seem to carry these) the larger the more important you are
2.A large brolly ( this keeps you from being dowsed in the bullshit thats frequently prevailent at these events)
3.A large bag of mud ( this assists in you slinging it at other agencies):winky:
tongue firmly in cheek
We're doing the Deco theory on the 21st December mate but with all due respect, if I were you I'd save my money and put it towards a twinset before I'd start thinking of going that route.. plus you ain't seen what happens underwater during the training for this sh*t.... it's vury vury scary, vury scary indeed!
I'll be wearing a nappy and it won't be because I might be on long deco... oh no... it'll be to catch the turtles head that pops out when both of my air supplys are terminated whilst having my mask ripped off and all of the other nasty little suprises that 'Hayhurst the Horrible' has lined up for us..
The man believes in taking you to the edge and allowing you to look over it into #### before he'll give you a ticket....
I used to like the guy but now he just scares me..
So its on 21st Dec...? I was thinking of joining you guys for the TDI deco but wasn't sure when it'd be, plus not too sure now after your report, seeing as I haven't had time to practice shutdowns etc with the new rig.
Maybe next year sometime ...?

I'm in the same boat as yourself mate as far as practising shutdowns etc are concerned, but we are going to cover only the theory on the 21st, #### comes later.. ring Andy and book yourself in mate, it'll be good to meet up again.
Ah...I hadn't noticed "theory" only, I'll check out my other committments and see if I can make that happen, how long is the theory part, one or two days?
