Some of it is coming down. I believe the hockey stadium and another building is actually being purchased for use at the Rio Olympic games.

Looks like it,s all getting mothballed for 1 to 5 years ,, bar the flats :zip:

60,000-seater football stadium lol ,
On the news yesterday they reason that the park will be closed for 1-5 years is that none of the apartments have any kitchens in, so they now needed to put kithcnes in to the apartments before they can be sold to the public....and for the football stadium that technically belongs to one of the football clubs who have bought it...so no loss there they coving the majority of the costs for it.

Best one is the swimming pool. Despite the shortage of Olympic sized pools for use by the elite squad it's being closed for approximately two years to be transformed for public use.
It needs to be closed to be transformed thought, as the seating needs to be removed so that it can have permanent sides put on, as when the seating was put in they where never intended for them to be permanent.

Olympic stadium from one of the best Games ever, turned into a football stadium.
From the sublime to the ridiculous.
Would be a terrible waste.

as a volunteer based at the olympic park i have somewhat of an inside view.

as stated, the swimming pool needs its temporary stands removing and its glass sides put on. it will be open for both elite training and public recreational use from Easter 2014 (although apparently the local authority charges over 4 pounds for a single recreational swim in its normal pools!)

the stadium complex is NOT YET sold to a football club. due to legal challenges it is still undecided for what use it will eventually go to. the athletes and UK Athletics obviously want to keep it as an athletics stadium. west ham and tottenham hotspur were both interested in using it for football, but leyton orient have objections against that as it will totally annihilate their catchment area and probably put them out of business.

the velodrome and BMX is staying (although the BMX track is going to be "simplified"), the hockey arena will be dismantled and then re-erected nearer to the Eton Manor (wheelchair tennis) complex which is staying but will be multi-purpose, the Water Polo and Basketball arenas are both temporary venues will be dismantled.
the press centre/broadcast centre are trying to be sold off as offices / light commercial.

a certain portion of the green space is being kept as a park and gardens, most of the other hard-standing where there were megastores, toilet cabins, food stalls and sponsor attractions is going to get covered in housing (in usual british cram in as many flats as possible in the tightest space possible styleee).

it remains to be seen how much of the accommodation will end up being affordable to "normal" workers and how much will just become the preserve of the super-rich but at least there is a plan in place and the whole thing will not become derilict. actually i think with so many temporary venues and use of other existing facilities (Excel / Earls Court / Eton Dorney / Weymouth / Hyde Park and the football venues up and down the country) we probably ran the games for a massively reduced cost compared to previous bid nations so we should be quite proud of what we managed to deliver.
