Hi

I'd like to get an aluminium backplate, like the halycon but without the corresponding price tag.  Any reccommendations?  Preferably without the bolt-groove sticking out too much (such as on the DiveRite backplates).

cheers

Are you sure that was a DR plate you've been shown? My alu DR plate is much flatter than I'd like - it's actually a bit awkward to get it bolted in place..

<font color='#000080'>Hi

Mark (Emery) found a good ali plate when we were looking earlier this year from a UK supplier. I can't remember how much it was. Send him a PM and he may be able to help.

I got an aluminum plate from Gary Hoadley off ebay.  He's located in Canada and he makes his own plates.  His prices are extremely reasonable.

Well I finally bit the bullet and bought a aluminium backplate.

I was looking at the diverite one as it appears to be very good value for money, however in the end I went for a OMS plate.

Assess what you are planning to use it for and then consider the options.

I am planning on using mine for holiday dive (nice and light for travel) and also use with singles and the OMS plate has slots for cambands the diverite one did not appear to have slots so I would have required a STA.  This was the reason I choose a OMS over the diverite.

The OMS one cost me £50,  I think the diverite one was about £40.  After I added on the price of a STA the diverite one would have been more expensive (and I guess I would of ended up with a stainless steel STA?)

Also the OMS plate does have a very flat profile and slim groove.

(I did look at the Halcyon plate as well, for about the length of time it took for them to tell me the price
)

I wanted the option of singles, but went for the DR plate - I'll convert those blue blocks that came with my Buddy twinning bands into an STA if/when I ever use a single again )

Daz - does the OMS plate have the slots in the right place for the pioneer cambands?  I had to cut two extra slots in my Nigel backplate because the holes provided didn't match up with my pioneer wing!

Don't know about with a pioneer wing,  I have DR trekwing on it as it is only for singles and holiday.

It has 3 sets of slots and each slot is just over 50mm long.

The slots are as follows

First slot starts at 87mm the top of the plate
Second set of slots start at 220mm from the top
and the last set start at 295mm from the top of the plate.

Does that help?  Here is a piccy I just took.

I have an ali backplate already with no cam bad slots. Is it possible (and cost effective) to have slots cut into them? Does this weaken the plate too much?
