Name — Peter

Location — Near Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire

First Qualified — June 2018

Club Member — Yes, Below The Surface (Hebden Bridge)

Highest Diving Qualification — Advanced Open Water; Drysuit

Instructor — No

What other training have you found most rewarding — Drysuit: it opened up British waters

What’s your standard kit — Cressi lightweight (travel) BCD; Scubapro reg’s; Seac mask; Mares Avanti Quattro fins[2]; torch; Ti knife[2]; Scubapro DSMB & Apeks reel; whistle; marine beacon[2]; Scubapro Galileo 2 computer & tank sender[2]; Tusa compass (backup); Cressi watch[2]; GoPro on mask always recording; anti-sickness tablets when it’s very choppy
[2] = bought used

Where do you usually dive — no ‘usual’ yet

Number of dives — ~30

Deepest dive — 34m

Longest dive — 45mins

Favourite dive — so far, Cape Verde

Worst dive — Lanzarote, off Playa Blanca, underweighted, couldn’t get down, lost grip on line, current took me away, tired after trying to return to the buoy, spoiled the dive for a buddy who tried to rescue me back to the boat but the current was too strong for him, bobbed about until the boat spotted us. Learning: DO NOT LET GO OF THE LINE!

What dive/trip would you most like to do — Thailand

What ONE other question should I have included — ‘What got you into diving?’

What got you into diving — Chance opportunity on holiday. I was 60 and thought “Why not?. Do something new!”

Dive Center Rasdhoo

I recently visited Rasdhoo, Maldives. All thanks to Jerrys Dive club, diving was simply amazing. Jerry was kind and helped me out throughout the whole training process. We first went to sand back, where the water was super shallow, did some snorkeling, and got comfortable in the water. My first scuba dive was terrific; every dive after that was just out of the world. Diving underwater was so peaceful, and I felt like I moved to a new world altogether. All I could hear was my breathing, and boom! I saw sharks, beautiful corals, swam with Manta rays, saw stingrays, plenty of starfish, tiger fish, barracudas, and so many other beautiful creatures. The last dive, I remember telling jerry, this was the fastest. Forty-five minutes of my life! I want to go back in!!

Here are some super cool underwater pictures we took:

If you are planning to dive in the Maldives, Rasdhoo is the right spot. All the diving spots are extremely close and you can reach them within 15 -20 minutes. Also, it is an eye feast and paradise for divers especially Madivaru reef and corner. You can see so many varieties of fish and if you want to see Manta rays, Rasdhoo Manta point is the go-to underwater perfect adventure.
